Job Description:

Agricultural workers maintain the quality of farms, crops, and livestock by operating machinery and doing physical labor under the supervision of farmers, ranchers, and other agricultural managers.

Duties

Agricultural workers typically do the following:

1. Harvest and inspect crops by hand
2. Irrigate farm soil and maintain ditches or pipes and pumps
3. Operate and service farm machinery
4. Spray fertilizer or pesticide solutions to control insects, fungi, and weeds
5. Move shrubs, plants, and trees with wheelbarrows or tractors
6. Feed livestock and clean and disinfect their pens, cages, yards, and hutches
7. Examine animals to detect symptoms of illness or injury

Agricultural equipment operators use a variety of farm equipment to plough and sow seeds, as well as maintain and harvest crops. They may use tractors, fertilizer spreaders, balers, combines, threshers, and trucks. These workers also operate machines such as conveyor belts, loading machines, separators, cleaners, and dryers. Workers may make adjustments and minor repairs to equipment.

Requirements:

• Be ready to dig in, get dirty and work hard. Applicants must be committed reliable people who will show up on time, always strive to do their best at work and are able to work in all sorts of weather conditions.
• The successful candidate will be trained in most aspects of operating the CSA and physical strength, flexibility, dexterity and endurance are required. Must be able to lift and carry heavy bins. Tasks are generally varied but staff are often assigned to specialized areas where they excel.
• Experience in agriculture, completion of an organic farm internship, or work in a related field is a strong asset. Special consideration will be given to those applicants who can demonstrate their commitment to local organic agriculture. Ability to commit to the full season is a requirement and an openness to coming back to work again in 2021 is a plus.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience:

• Grade 10,
• Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Food Safe Certificate

3. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

5. Ability to operate related equipment.
