Job Description:

This is routine manual work in specialized farming activities on a poultry farm. Work involves performing a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled poultry-related tasks in accordance with specific instructions or a well-established routine. Specialized tasks are also performed in connection with caring for poultry. Work is subject to general supervision through inspections and review of results of work.

Duties And Responsibilities

Feeds, waters, and otherwise cares for poultry; cleans poultry houses, pens, feeders, water receptacles, boiler rooms, and sheds.
Keeps and checks records on mortality of poultry, feeding of poultry, and other information on poultry; prepares poultry for operations or inoculations; sterilizes hatchery equipment.
Repairs and paints sheds, barns, and fences; loads and unloads feed.
Collects and washes eggs, candles, and stores eggs in coolers.
Maintains proper lighting and heating for poultry pens and incubators; puts shavings in hens nests.
Performs related work as required.

Education And Experience

Completion of the eighth school grade; and varied experience in poultry farm work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Some knowledge of practical farm operations.
Some knowledge of the feedings and care of poultry.

Ability to operate basic farm tools and equipment such as trucks, tractors, and mowers.

Job Description:

Performs any combinations of the following duties concerned with raising poultry for eggs and meat: Removes chicks from shipping cartons and places them in brooder houses.
Cleans and fills feeders and water containers.
Sprays poultry houses with disinfectants and vaccines.
Inspects poultry for diseases and removes weak, ill, and dead poultry from the flock.
Collects eggs from trap nests, releases hens from nests, and records the number of eggs laid by each hen.
Packs eggs in cases or cartons; selects, weighs, and crates fryers and pullets; and records totals packed or crated on shipping or storage document.
Maintains feeding and breeding reports.
Monitors feed, water, illumination, and ventilation systems; and cleans, adjusts, lubricates, and replaces systems parts, using hand tools.
May cut off tips of beaks.
May be designated according to the type of farm or product as Farmworker, Brooder Farm; Farmworker, Chicken Farm; Farmworker, Egg-Producing Farm; Farmworker, Fryer Farm; Farmworker, Pullet Farm; Farmworker, Turkey Farm.
